Augmented Reality Street Art: Fusing the Physical and the Digital

Introducing AR Frames by Frank Styles / Aucto Visio

AR Frames is an innovative blend of hand-painted street art and cutting-edge augmented reality (AR), designed to captivate audiences through interactive, immersive experiences. Developed by artist Frank Styles, the project combines traditional craftsmanship with digital storytelling—bringing art to life on the streets, in galleries, and at events.

What Are AR Frames?

AR Frames are hand-built, hand-painted sculptures designed as both stand-alone street artworks and digital portals. When viewed through a smartphone, the frame becomes a window into an animated digital world—transforming public space into an interactive gallery.

Accessible via a simple QR code and using web-based AR, the experience requires no app downloads, making it fast and user-friendly for a wide audience.

What Makes This Work Unique?

  • Custom Physical Frames: Built from scratch using MDF, plywood, and pine, each frame is a unique art piece in its own right.

  • Augmented Reality Artworks: Layered 2D and 3D digital artworks created using Lens Studio, triggered by the frame’s painted design.

  • Interactive Features: Users can change colours manually within the AR environment and take selfies inside the artwork.

  • Pop-Up Ready: Portable and adaptable, the frames can be easily set up at festivals, galleries, or public spaces.
